Our Services: Questions & Categories

6 Common Service Questions:
Experienced funeral & cremation businesses commonly offer a variety of services to meet a family’s preferences. However, in arranging a funeral or cremation service, we understand that every family is different. Many factors help determine whether a service will become simple or elaborate, private or public, and even religious or secular.
Angelus Funeral Home has you covered.  As respected funeral and cremation leaders, we are use to solving those heavy questions.

Common questions we hear are:

“Should we cremate or have a funeral service?”
“We only have ‘X’ dollars to spare. What are all of our options?”
“Do you have caskets here or do I go buy my own?”
“I understand that a casket (or urn) is a reflection of my love, but what are important things to consider?”
“Should we have a viewing?”
“We never applied for a pre-need program. How can we avoid that in the future?”

2 Common Service Categories:
Funeral & Cremation options that you must first decide.
Funeral “Traditional or Direct”

"Traditional" Funeral

  1. A viewing or visitation and formal funeral service
  2. Use of a hearse to transport the body to the funeral site and cemetery
  3. Burial, entombment or cremation of the remains.

Key note: Traditional services are generally the most expensive type of funeral. In addition to the funeral home's basic services fee, costs often include embalming and dressing the body; rental of the funeral home for the viewing or service; and use of vehicles to transport the family if they don't use their own. The costs of a casket, cemetery plot or crypt and other funeral goods and services also must be factored in.

“Direct” Burial Service

  1. The body is buried shortly after death (usually in a simple container.)
  2. No viewing or visitation is involved (so no embalming is necessary)
  3. A memorial service may be held at the graveside or later.
  4. Direct burial usually costs less than the "traditional," full-service funeral.

Key note: Direct Burial costs include the funeral home's basic services fee, as well as transportation and care of the body, the purchase of a casket or burial container and a cemetery plot or crypt.  If the family chooses to be at the cemetery for the burial, the funeral home often charges an additional fee for a graveside service.

Cremation ‘with a viewing or direct

  1. Basic Professional Angelus Funeral Home funeral viewing services lead by a funeral Director and Staff
  2. Cremation Fee
  3. Temporary receptacle for the cremated remains
  4. Alternative cremation container
  5. Transportation of the remains to the crematory

Key Note: Cremation ‘with viewing’ usually does not include death certificates, medical examiner cremation approval fee, cremation casket; cash advance items, limousine, cremation urn, funeral coach, or service/errand vehicle.

Direct Cremation

  1. The body is cremated shortly after death (without embalming)
  2. The cremated remains are placed in an urn or other container. (No viewing or visitation is involved although a memorial service may be held, with or without the cremated remains present. The remains can be kept in the home, buried or placed in a crypt or niche in a cemetery, or buried or scattered in a favorite spot.)
  3. Direct Cremation usually costs less than the "traditional," full-service funeral. Costs include the funeral home's basic services fee, as well as transportation and care of the body.

Key note: With Direct Cremation a crematory fee may be included or, if the funeral home does not own the crematory, the fee may be added on. There also will be a charge for an urn or other container. The cost of a cemetery plot or crypt is included only if the remains are buried or entombed. The cost of a cemetery plot or crypt is an additional cost if the remains are buried or entombed. Funeral providers who offer direct cremations also must offer to provide an alternative container that can be used in place of a casket.
